EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES During the Home's 36-year history, a program has been developed which completely transforms the lives of the women who come directly from prison or the street. The primary vehicle for rehabilitation is the Learning Center curriculum. Courses taught in the twelve-level curriculum required for graduation are designed to allow each student to acquire a knowledge of life-changing principles and include such topics as The Winning Attitude, The Curing Power of Love, Healing for Damaged Emotions, Handling Conflicts, How to Win Over Depression, Freedom to Grow, Principles for Decision Making, Drug Education and Goal Setting. After completing the one-year curriculum, the student spends four months working at an outside job while still living in the Home. This educational foundation and spiritual renewal, working in conjunction with the communal living and increased responsibilities and privileges, prepares each woman for reintegration into society. FACILITIES The Walter Hoving Home is located 45 miles north of New York City on a lovely, 22-acre estate. The second home is located in the historic Mira Monte Hotel at 127 South El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, California. Both homes have the capacity to provide care for up to 60 women. REFERRALS The Walter Hoving Home is recognized as an effective residential-care rehabilitation facility and receives referrals from many sources including courts, judges, parole officers, probation departments, police, clergy and churches.
