She was only 13.
She was a sweet innocent child.
After coming to the Untied States with her parents, Jenelle was kicked out of her house by her stepdad. Lost, lonely and afraid–she gravitated to a man she met on the street who promised her he would clothe her, feed her and take care of her for the rest of her life.
It seemed like a dream come true–she finally found someone to love her after all the abuse she had endured as a child. But her dream soon turned into a nightmare of more torture, enslavement and desperation. That man became her pimp–her sex trafficker.
Beatings, torture, and cruel punishments to “be obedient” became an everyday norm for her.
Years went by and the more she was sold to countless different men–the more she lost her true self–and the little sweet blonde girl who once dreamed of being loved–gave up her dreams for locked chains of addiction, rejection and abandonment.
She had become a sex trafficking slave–a throw away to many in society. But God!
When we met her she was literally at her ropes end. Ready for change–she had finally gotten up the strength to leave her pimp. What great courage this takes!
When I picked her up to take her to our Destiny House she was in tears. Not tears of sorrow or regret–but tears of pure JOY. She was now on her journey to FREEDOM!
I took her to Starbucks to get a frap and something to eat–she was starving. When we gave her the drink she said: “No one has ever bought me anything before without expecting something back. Why are you treating me so kind?” (wait..what??)
Because love IS something–it DOES something.
It’s not just a studied theory on paper in school. It’s not just proclaimed in the streets, on blogs or in the pulpit.
Love rescues, protects, restores and redeems those who some believe don’t deserve it.
These are some of the precious people that Jesus loves so deeply.
The adulteress. The harlot. The stripper. The prostitute.
The sex trafficking victim.
LOVE! It’s SUPER radical. Goes anywhere. Does anything. It’s unbelievably unconditional. It expects nothing back!
And it is NEVER ENDING.
God is love.
Today Jenelle met love–
And today is her first day of freedom.
She doesn’t need to be afraid, lost or rejected anymore. She is HOME.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor.
He has sent me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy), to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. (the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly) Luke 4:18-19 AMP
Our hearts our FULL from meeting Jenelle! It prompted our heart to be so thankful for our Destiny House.
The other day I paid our electricity bill for the Destiny House and offices. I then went to our bank account to check the balance.
We were minus $`-12.00 in our account. It was overdrawn!
I could hear past criticisms in my head like:
“You can’t afford it–shut it down”
“Get rid of Destiny House–it’s too hard.”
“You’re suppose to be successful–what have you done wrong?”
“You should be ashamed to ask for money–sounds like you’re begging”
“Is there something easier you can be doing like traveling and speaking–instead of rescuing girls?”
But I heard this scripture in the back of my head:
When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
Yes. I was absolutely afraid.
But I need to GIVE Him my TRUST.
Jesus never promised that following Him would be easy. If He didn’t have it that way to the cross–why would we?
You see–I frankly do not care what others think–and neither should you. When you know you’re right before God–you need to focus on Him and what He’s called you to do!
KEEP IT MOVIN–KEEP WALKING
I have been reading the (dreaded) book of Job and I must say that I can totally relate to him in so many ways.
I know that my heart is pure–I’ve given it to God daily.
And even though negative accusing voices and even some people (supposed friends) can come against you and question your motives–you need to trust God that He will make a way when it seems like everything is falling apart.
We do our due diligence with every dime that is spent…it goes to our outreach and Destiny House program–taking care of the girls.
We also are writing some grants and very hopeful we will be getting them soon–all in God’s timing. Please pray for us!
In the meantime–we are going to TRUST.
How about you?
Will you trust Him when it seems like all your chips are down?
I am going to do a bold ask.
(How dare me, right?)
To be able to help precious Jenelle and other girls like her–this is not cheap–it does not come free.
