John Benton, President and founder of the Walter Hoving Home

John Benton is founder and president of the Walter Hoving Home, a rehabilitation agency serving women who are involved in drug addiction and prostitution.

John and his wife Elsie founded the New York Home in 1967. Under their leadership, the Walter Hoving Home expanded to the West Coast in 1985, with the opening of a center in Pasadena, California.

For more than 36 years, the Bentons have spent many nights on the streets of New York City and Los Angeles talking with prostitutes and drug addicts. They bring an offer of hope which ultimately results in dramatically changed lives for many of the women they encounter.

From their first naive venture to reach out to women on the street to the present, the Bentons have demonstrated a genuine love and concern for the enslaved and embittered young women who are in such desperate need of the compassion and discipline provided by the Walter Hoving Home.

Mr. Benton, author of 45 books and numerous magazine articles, is a member of the Los Angeles County Commission on Prostitution. John and his wife Elsie make their home in Pasadena, California.
