Bobbie wasn’t even a teen yet.
Yet she was being sold for sex by her own family to support their needs–sex trafficked as a child.
Her family was suppose to love her–protect her–show her the way to grow and live.
She was a prisoner in a virtual paradise.
There were palm trees, exotics beaches, and aqua blue water sparkling in the sun beaconing eager tourists to come and play. This was a fantasy island all the vacationers would flock to for their time away from the fast paced real world.
But it was also a place that sex tourism took place on a daily basis.
Little girls like Bobbie were suppose to be playing on the beach–building sandcastles, collecting shells and writing their names in the sand. But instead Bobbie was being advertised online as “blonde paradise beauty barely 18” and being sold to more than 10 men a night.
Tossed around, pushed, slapped, spit on, raped and kicked–this was her everyday existence.
For her to survive–she chose to became numb and eventually accepted what her life was going to be–a sex tourist child toy.
Would she ever get to play on the beach and swing in the hammock? Play with a barbie doll with her friends? Ride her bike as the warm tropical wind brushed across her face? Eat ice-cream and giggle as it melted down her cheek?
The devil may have robbed her of her childhood–but God still had a plan for her.
For I hold you by your right hand, I the Lord your God, and I say to you don’t fear. I’m here to help you. Isaiah 41:13
Then Bobbie prayed.
By a miracle of God, Bobbie finally escaped the island and her toxic family. When we met her she seemed completely devastated. The trauma of the sexual abuse had taken it’s toll. She was quiet, withdrawn and very shy.
Then something amazing happened!
I gave her a mini-ipod shuffle and filled it with uplifting music filled with hope, destiny & promise. She started listening to it and soaking in the presence of God. And as she hummed to the music, God wrapped His loving arms around her and became her comforter she never had the chance to experience before.
She moved into our Destiny House….
To fight for her childhood & grieve what wasn’t.
To bind up wounds inflicted by every man meant to defile her innocence.
To bring healing to her heart, mind and soul.
To bring light, laughter and love to her spirit.
To restore to her purity so she could become what God meant for her to be:
She was never someone’s toy, rag doll, play thing, piece of meat, or little whore.
She is a human being.
A sister, friend, a niece.
She is royalty–a princess of the most high God.
His beautiful daughter.
He will open the gates of her imprisoned mind.
He will restore her innocence to brand new.
He will heal her ravaged heart.
He will guide her steps and show her the way to true freedom by loving her to complete restoration.
Because that’s who God is–a redeemer!
Today Bobbie became His precious daughter at Destiny House.
I was asked the other day during an interview:
“Annie, why don’t you just write books, travel and speak? You’ve paid your dues–you’ve spent a lot of time with the girls over the years–pouring into them and building the Destiny House program. You should quit and take a break.”
And honestly I could do that.
It also sounded very enticing, glamorous—>>>the easy way out!
The truth is, I’ve already written and book called Fallen, and I am working on another as I type this. But I’m not settling for just writing books and becoming a theorist–I am attempting to live this thing.
Have you ever been tempted to throw in the towel and take the “easy” road?
To be honest with you, my job (and my staff’s job) is not easy. It is hard, challenging, very tiring and sometimes flat out difficult!
But in the end–it’s so worth every heartache, tear, happiness and victory! Besides…this would not be the way to reach the girls to work with them directly.
Look–you can’t have a a real relationship with someone in the pulpit, from a book or over the internet. That is superficial.
Authentic relationships take time and investment for them to produce real love.
And this is how we will continue to reach ladies like Bobbie–and more that will come.
Thank you to all that believe in us and what we’ve been chosen to do!
To be able to help precious Bobbie and other girls like her–it takes time–investing in relationships one on one.
And it also takes finances to restore each girl with counseling, food, clothing, physical therapy, classes, shelter, maintenance for Destiny House and 24/7 care.
Would you be prompted in your heart to shower some love onto the ladies at Destiny House?
